AIM
There was a time in the early 2000s when AIM was the dominating messaging platform with more than 30 million active users and integration into pop culture and the daily lives of teenagers and young adults. Nevertheless, AIM’s functionality and capabilities could not match those of the new instant messaging services that appeared in the middle and late 2000s, such as social networks and mobile applications. However, with time, the aim has lost its popularity in the market and after more than 20 years of existence; the AOL decided to shut it down in 2017. Though AIM is no longer operational, it played a pivotal role in shaping the way people communicate over the internet and opened the door to creating modern messaging platforms.
